THE SOLDIER’S JOURNEY (IN PRODUCTION)

THE SOLDIER’S JOURNEY is Helena Maksyom’s second documentary feature which chronicles her journey from civilian to combat veteran and everything in between during the full scale russian invasion of Ukraine.
This is an intimate diary of her experience as a female soldier in the Ukrainian military that spans two years of her life at war.


The film is a Romanian-German-Swiss-Ukrainian co-production supported by ZDF Germany.


The project was developed at EURODOC 2023 and won several pitching awards, including the main prize at the CineDoc Tbilisi Pitch 2022 and the HBO Max award at East Doc Forum 2022.

EVERYTHING WILL NOT BE FINE (2020)

EVERYTHING WILL NOT BE FINE is a personal documentary directed by Helena Maksyom and Adrian Pirvu that follows the story of the first generation born after the Chernobyl disaster.


Traveling together Helena and Adrian find people who are dealing with the effects of what happened in 1986, but as they discover the scale of Chernobyl’s impact on a new generation, their health problems catch up with them and they have to divert their plans.


The film is a Romanian-Ukrainian co-production which had it’s international premiere at IDFA in 2020.
